The IROS 2015 Citizens Forum is to inform and to discus recent progres and future visionary research and developement towards a robot technology which allows robots to autonomously cooperate and interact closely to humans in risky and challenging scenarios with different needs and societal imact. Such robots may have multiple different shapes and functions, cognitive capabilities and in addition natural and intuitive man-machine interfaces. Todays robots are applied in its mayority for industrial manufacturing, maintenance, inspection and transportation. From biology new robot shapes and bionic principles have been derived which allow a robot to fly, to dive and to walk in uneven rough and dangerous terrain. performing tasks, which cannot be done directly by humans. Others are designed for highly risky applications like surgery, man-made and natural environmental disasters or in space. All in common is the need to perceive and understand the environment, to fulfill the requirements of the scenario they are designed for, to adapt its behaviour and supporting the needs of humans cooperating with them and to consider their personal capabilities, stature and mental stauts. The interest in such systems is rapidly growing for the reason that robot technology is available at a reasonable price and becoming part of our dayly life being connected with the Internet, other robots, autonomous mobile systems and with various sensors and other devices within future smart urban environments.
IROS 2015 Citizens Forum surveys in a unique selection of outstanding speakers, recent technological progres towards advanced robots and shows the impact for various new upcoming application fields. It is addressing interested citizens with different background, pupils, students, teachers, artists and other people being interested in future and upcoming emerging technology which may strongly influence our daily and societal life.
